Fornells
40’ 3”.9 N, 4’ 8”.1 E harbour on
menorca
Fornells is a sheltered anchorage and harbour on the north coast of Menorca. It is one of only three all weather ports on the entire island, together with
Ciudadella and
Mahon.
The anchorage
The bay of Fornells is wide and has plenty of room, although holding is reported to be poor in places. An ideal spot is halfway between the harbour and Isla Sargantana.
Shelter is good, but a swell can work in, particurlarly during strong winds from the north and north west. If a Mistral is forecast, it may be more comfortable going into the harbour or considering the more secure harbours at Ciudadella or Mahon.
The harbour
Fornells harbour is small compared with the main marinas found on Majorca. Visitors berth on the outer mole with lazy lines for fore and aft mooring, with room for only up to 20 yachts of around 10-11 metres. The town itself is small, with several pleasant restaurants and bars overlooking the harbour.
