Bonaire is a purpose-built marina built on south side of Pollensa Bay. In December 2001, a hurricane hit the marina with windspeeds of over 100 knots. The sea wall was breached and the marina suffered significant damage, with over 20 boats sunk and the restaurant at the head of the breakwater swept away. The harbour has now been rebuilt with a sea wall that is 2 metres higher, and Bonaire is now a pleasant marina in wooded surroundeds with good shelter.
