Reefing
Reefing is a personal choice for the skipper, and depends very much on the experience of the skipper and capabilities of the crew. My rule of thumb is that I think that maybe I should reef, I do so. I have never regretted putting a reef in, but I have on several occasions regretted deciding to wait and see. There is no hard and fast rule, but with a crusing (rather than a racing) crew aboard, anything above 18-20 knots and I would consider a reef.Sponsored links
